The Douglas County Education Foundation is pleased to announce the Dance Academy West Scholarship offered to graduating seniors attending any of the five high schools in the Douglas County School System. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and plan to major in dance, acting, or vocal or musical theater.
The $500 scholarship is sponsored by KC Emberson and Kelly Gammill, co-owners of Dance Academy West.
Ms. Emberson is the founder and artistic director of Dance Academy West. She and her husband are rearing their three children in Douglas County, two of whom are school age and attend elementary school in the school system. Ms. Emberson is also a member of the foundation board and is chairing the upcoming Kaleidoscope, a foundation-sponsored celebration of fine arts set for April 16. Ms. Gammill is director of the studio's competition team. She was raised in Douglas County and graduated from Douglas County High School in 1994.
Since the studio's opening in 2002, Ms. Emberson and Ms. Gammill have shared a passion for instilling a love and appreciation for fine arts in their students. They have served hundreds of families in the past seventeen years, and have had several students go on to pursue dance and theater in college.
“We are excited to give a $500 scholarship to a student pursuing a degree in fine arts, including dance, theater, vocal/music, or musical theater," said Ms. Emberson. “It is of continued importance to Kelly and me to promote fine arts within our community and in our public schools.”
The Dance Academy West Scholarship is one of 24 different locally-sponsored scholarship funds offering a total of $51,210 to 50 members of the high school graduating class of 2019. Dance Academy West is located at 2529 Bright Star Road.
