One of the community’s favorite fun runs, the Foundation Fun Run, known in prior years as the Teacher’s PET Fun Run, is coming up at New Manchester High School the morning of November 3!

Beginner and experienced runners from pre-Kindergarten through middle school are welcome at the Foundation Fun RunThe top 10 male and top 10 female runners in each age category receive medals. The three schools that have the most top 10 finishers will each take home a trophy for permanent display and bragging rights!

The Douglas County Education Foundation, formerly Public Education Trust/PET, is the organizationthat raises money for the Douglas County School System. This is the seventh year the Douglas County Education Foundation has sponsored a fall Fun Run.

The first race is at 9:00 a.m. and is a 1.5 mile run for middle schoolers. Races for different ages continue throughout the morning, concluding with a 200M incredibly cute Tot Trot for pre-Kindergarten boys and girls!

The Fun Run raises money for school system teachers and students while at the same time promoting fun and fitness,” said Lynne T. Cole, a foundation board member and event co-chair. The younger kids begin healthy practices, the better.”

“My fellow board members and I are happy to sponsor this annual event,” continued Ms. Cole. “It’s a wonderful morning of families and schools coming together for a great purpose. We have wonderful support from elementary and middle school PE teachers. They help us coordinate the races but also provide encouragement to their students who are running.”

The foundation’s first six Fun Runs have cleared $59,000, with the majority of those earnings returned to the school system through Classroom Impact Grants. Foundation sponsored Classroom Impact Grants are reaching almost 10,000 students across all grade levels this school year.

The foundation welcomes runners and event sponsors. For more information, send an email to [email protected], or visit the foundation’s website at www.dcef.dcssga.org.
