The Douglas County School System (DCSS) announces the awarding of $52,500 in college scholarships administered by the Douglas County Education Foundation (DCEF). Scholarship awardees include students from all five DCSS high schools, as well as the College and Career Institute (CCI).

This year, DCEF received 246 student applications for 13 available scholarship offerings.  To ensure the best and fairest scoring process, each applicant was reviewed and scored by three anonymous volunteer reviewers which consisted of local residents, business leaders, and DCEF supporters. This year, a total of 31 scholarships were awarded to DCSS students—five students from Alexander High School, nine students from Chapel Hill High School, eight students from Douglas County High School, five students from New Manchester High School, and four students from Lithia Springs High School.

The Douglas County Education Foundation is honored to have added the Microsoft STEM Scholarship this academic year.

“As career pathways in technology such as Software Developers, IT Managers, Cyber Security, Computer System Analysts, DevOps Engineers, and Artificial Intelligence — to name a few — are expected to be in high demand over the next 10-plus years, we are very pleased to add the Microsoft STEM scholarship to our catalog of scholarship offerings,” says Angelia O’Neal, Executive Director, Douglas County Education Foundation.

Criteria for consideration for DCEF scholarships include major, high school, volunteerism, financial need, participation in sports, and other holistic factors. Most scholarships require a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, but some scholarships have no minimum GPA requirement.

The DCEF has a mission to benefit student success through the generation and dispensing of funds in order to “encourage, recognize and reward excellence in the students and staff of the Douglas County School System.”  For more information about DCEF, as well as their annual scholarship program, visit http://dcef.dcssga.org/
